About this course

If you are the type of person who loves their sport and you want to improve your coaching and leadership skills, AISR’s Certificate III in Sport Coaching course have been designed with you in mind.

This course provides you the skills and knowledge to undertake a role as a coach in many sport disciplines. Job functions could include observing the performance of sports participants to determine the required level of instruction, and planning, conducting and evaluating individualised and team based training programs. Those with this qualification would also supervise practice sessions and provide in competition assistance to participants.

What’s the cost?

Without Certificate 3 Guarantee funding: Fee for service

With Certificate 3 Guarantee funded by the Queensland Government:

Co-contribution fee $5.00 per unit, 15 unit total $75.00!

Co-contribution consession fee $2.00 per unit (must provide evidence of holding consession card)

If you qualify for Certificate 3 Guarantee the co-contribution fee covers training costs (exclude some personal equipment dependent on your chosen skill set and remote location costs). Please note co-contribution fees are non refundable after commencement. To check eligibility you will need to complete the Certificate funding eligibility form. Please note completion of qualification may affect eligibility of further Certificate 3 guarantee funding.

Course Content

15 units must be completed consisting of 9 core units and 6 elecitive units (sport specialisation)



Provide first aid


Develop and update knowledge of coaching practices


Coach beginner or novice participants to develop fundamental motor skills


Plan and deliver coaching programs


Customise coaching for athletes with specific needs


Communicate effectively with others in a sport environment


Maintain sport, fitness and recreation equipment for activities


Undertake risk analysis of activities


Manage conflict

Elective specialisations may include:

Basketball, Cricket, Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Squash, Surfing, Tennis and more on request!
